Welcome!

Since the early 1990's Donald Park has developed through public & private partnerships. The Delma Donald Woodburn family donated 105 acres that, with the purchase of the Hitchcock farm, formed the core of the park.
More than 700 acres of parkland now exist. In 2000, The Friends of Donald Park, Inc formed as a non-profit organization to work with Dane County Parks to promote park development.

The park officially opened to the public in 2002. Donald Park is now a bright star in the Dane County Parks system. As more farms and open spaces give way to urban development, Donald Park preserves the culture and natural heritage of this region.

Pat Hitchcock To Be Honored

The Natural Heritage Land Trust, formerly the Dane County Natural Heritage Foundation, will commemorate 25 years of voluntary land conservation success at is Stewardship Awards Celebration at Monona Terrace on May 1, 2008 starting at 5:30 pm.

Pat Hitchcock will be honored for her exemplary role in the stewardship of Donald County Park. Pat’s passion for the beautiful landscape of southwestern Dane County has created a jewel in the country’s park system. Even before her farmstead became a part of the Park, Pat developed outdoor education programs using a system of hiking, skiing, and horseback riding trails. Now her farmstead is part of the 540 acre park and she has made her home the nerve center for the active corps of volunteers who maintain the park’s trails and restores its natural areas. (last year alone the volunteers donated 4,4000 hours of work).

Bill Lunney, Bill O’Connor, and the Swamplovers, otherwise known as Jerry Goth, Tom Kuehn, and Lee Swanson, will be honored for their land stewardship, as well.

The 25th Anniversary Stewardship Awards Celebration will be one of recognizing stewardship, dinner and networking. More than 150 supporters are expected to attend the event. Tickets: $40 in advance.
